Track Irene's Path.

I have been watching the news on and off all night waiting for the high winds to start but so far nada. There have been some reports of down trees but around here it looks like any other rainy day. I checked weather.com to see what is the latest on the path and found out they have a hurricane tracker. There you can see how far is it, how high the winds are going to be when it hits your area, current alerts, etc. I know I'm keeping this page open until tomorrow morning. Crossing my fingers that the lights won't go out. If not my cell phone will have to do! And is too humid to be without a fan. Stay safe/Cuidensen, mi gente...♥♥

Are You Ready For Irene/Estás Preparado Para Irene?

Are you ready New York? Tonight we'll know if Irene is as strong as it has been predicted. I believe its already at 85mph so I'm guessing by the time it gets to New York is not going to be as strong. If you don't know how strong 85 to 90 mph winds are, I posted some videos below. Last time I experienced a hurricane was when I was living in Puerto Rico. That was ages ago so I had to check! Irene, could cause some damage. Glad we are taking precautions, with mother nature you never know.

I went to the supermarket yesterday to get some food, batteries, candles, etc. Passed by the 99cents store, that store was full! They had no big flashlights or batteries. People were taking whatever they could. The owners were so happy with so much customers! The lines were ridiculous and it was hot as hell inside. We had to settle for candles, but is better than nothing! As long as we have food and water the rest is not as important. And of course if you need medicine for a member of your family. I made sure my daughter has enough allergy medicine.

I tried to sleep but only slept two hours. Here I am writing this post. This reminds me of Puerto Rico, we wouldn't sleep waiting for the hurricanes. We would sit on the balcony drinking coffee with a piece of bread and butter until the rain came down really hard. Good memories, not that a hurricane is something fun but familia/people tend to get close on ocassions like these.

Bueno, I'm going to try to take a nap. Cuidensen/Stay safe out there and although this hasn't happened in New York in a long time is something you need to take seriously. Don't go out there because you want to feel the wind. That's how accidents happen, mi gente...♥♥

Scarface Back In Theaters.

"Say Hello To My Little Friend" Sorry but I couldn't help it, lol. Are you a fan of the movie Scarface? If so, you have the opportunity to see the movie in theaters again. The catch, is for one day only. The movie will air on Wednesday, August 31 2011 at 7:30PM. Lucky for you the event will not start with the movie right away. First, there is a mini featurette including interviews from filmmakers and others. I love it when they give you extras! Head on to their site to check out which theater near you will be part of this event!

The Blu-Ray version of Scarface will be out on September 6. I have made sort of a tradition to try to see all the cult classics con mis hijos. I want them to experience the movies from back in the days. As soon as it is available on Netflix I'm renting it. How about you? Do you watch cult classics with your hijos?

Morning Drama!

After two long days of repairs in my apartment I was looking forward to some rest. I haven't been sleeping well (two hours here and there) so I was trying to get some good sleep. Nope, couldn't do that. This morning I hear some loud knocking on my door. I thought it was the guy from the gas company. I looked through the peephole, what do I see? Three cops standing in front of my door. I'm not going to lie, the first thing that came out of my mouth was WTF? I opened the door, they are knocking on the door of the neighbors who live right across from me. Then they asked me if I heard anything like someone screaming or shots fired. I couldn't believe they were asking me that. I told them that I didn't hear anything. They started asking me about my neighbors. If I knew if someone was there etc.

According to them, someone called 911 saying someone was trying to break in into my neighbor's apartment. One of them kept knocking on my neighbor's door with the baton pretty loud for some time. At this point I'm thinking all sorts of things. What if the wife is unconscious or something. I snapped out of it and told the cop that if one of them was there they would've opened the door right away. They (cops) decided to go outside to check around. Don't know what happened after that.

There were two police cars parked in front. I thought ok is over, nope. Two guys showed up, one of them says that someone had cut his friend in the arm and him too. The cop asked the guy to show him his arm so he can put a bandage on it. He made a call, another police car comes out of nowhere. It was like a damn movie! Turns out a woman had cut them as they were passing by her for no apparent reason. I'm guessing she was crazy. Another guy showed up saying he had seen her also. Two of the police cars left with the guys who were attacked apparently to find the woman. At this point my nerves were rattled. I started getting sick to my stomach, lol. I know, is sad but when the police knocks on your door it can't be for anything good! Needless to say I couldn't go back to sleep.

Later my son told me he had seen my neighbor coming out of his apartment. Guess they were out. I'm still wondering if someone told them what happened. Who knows, all I know it is going to be harder for me to sleep after today's morning drama!

A Doggy Hotel Movie.

Guest written by our friend Clara Castro

Hotel for Dogs was a really nice family movie. I thought that it was going to be too childish and cheesy for me to enjoy, but I was wrong. This movie didn't have any talking dogs, and the main cast of characters is mostly kids. Don Cheadle and Lisa Kudrow are in it. I watched it on my satellite TV from CABLEtelevision.NET using On Demand.

Since there were no talking dogs, I wondered how the movie was going to be constructed to keep my interest watching dogs basically do what dogs do. It was fantastic how the director used trained dogs and sight gags to engage the viewer. The child and adult actors both interacted with the dogs in the movie like they all knew each other for a long time. There were big dogs and little dog along with cute dogs and ugly dogs. There was even one dog who only had three legs. Way to go in hiring a handicapped canine actor!

Two foster kids were trying to keep together after their parents died. It was just the older sister, the younger brother, and their family dog. However, Friday the dog wasn't welcome at the kids' foster home. They holed up in an old abandoned hotel one night as they were running from the police after some bad kids burglarized a place right in front of them. The young boy was a genius at making fantastic mechanisms out of junk. He mechanized a whole system in the hotel to take care of all the strays they were finding. It's a heartwarming story for the whole family.
