Snow + Netflix = Relaxation!

And just like that, it is over! We didn't get that much snow as you can see by the pictures. I took these from my window, the first two was around 4AM, the third one was around 6AM. I don't know around other areas, but around here it didn't look like a blizzard at all. From the news, I expected something like the blizzard we had in 1996! For that one, the mountains of snow were taller than me. Good times!

It looked pretty though and it was so peaceful. Like we say in Puerto Rico, no había ni un alma en la calle/there was not a soul on the street. Then the snow plow truck passed by and the beauty disappeared.

Oh well, until next winter! Yes, I'm already thinking about next winter. Me no like hot weather!

We started renting movies from Netflix again. There are so many movies that we have to catch up with. We rented The Hunger Games and The Dark Knight Rises. We have been streaming for over a year, but as you know they don't always stream the popular ones. We are going to be snuggling, relaxing and enjoying our snowy weekend watching two good movies. I also have to empty my DVR, it is 100% full.

Talking about TV, I am loving Netflix's House of Cards. I'm up to episode 8, so so good. That's the movies envelope you see below, they are promoting the show everywhere! I love that I can sit and watch the whole season in a matter of days, sometimes in one day! No commercials and no waiting. I do hate when I'm about to finish the seasons, so I try to delay it, lol. I know, it's sad. Don't judge me. 

If you are into politics and drama, this show is for you. I'm not hardcore into politics, but I do enjoy the drama, lol. Only in movies or TV that is. Not in real life! No drama for this Mama.

Thursday 13 - The Last 13 Movies I've Seen

This week is going by too fast, coño! I want to start the week all over again, please? I used to enjoy my weekends, lately I haven't been able to due to some inconsiderate people. I hope the situation will change soon con la ayuda de Dios. If you can send a few prayers my way it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm dying for the 70's temperatures to go away. Or at least the humidity. I've been sitting here with the fan pointing at me because of the humidity and now I have a sore throat. Time to get a bag of halls and a bottle of honey just in case.

So, did you know that Entrecard closed down? I went to the site and it wouldn't load, then I noticed that the widget isn't working. I googled it and sure enough they closed a few weeks ago. I had no idea. Apparently they didn't bother to let anyone know. I'm going to miss Entrecard. I found a lot of good blogs through them. It would be nice if someone else picks it up, but I doubt it. If anyone knows of a similar service, please let me know.

Feedburner is also closing as of next month! I found out through a post from Blogher. There was an announcement last year, but I had no idea until now. Again, no warning. Now to find another free service that will offer the same thing. Google is starting to annoy me with the closing of so many services. I mean, if you are going to take over a company and, then close it without caring about how many people depend on it, then why bother at all?!

Anyway, time for my meme. I used to do this meme when I started blogging, but lost track of it. Memes are always fun and they give you something to write about. My Weekend.

How are you staying cool? I have stayed inside as much as I possibly can. I thought I had to go out yesterday morning, but I didn't. It rained late last night a bit so it has cooled down somewhat. Seems like we are getting some relief this coming week, thank God!

I cooked extra food yesterday, so I didn't have to cook today. Too hot to be in the kitchen everyday. I made arroz con salchichas, pink beans, corn and maduros. Haven't made that in ages so it was a tasty change. Not mention super cheap!
    
I'm sitting here listening to 80's music on Spotify, waiting for my son to finish with the TV so I can watch one of the movies we rented. We rented John Carter and Underworld: Awakening. I know he's not going to want to watch Underworld so I'll watch it by myself because my daughter is out with friends. Plug in the headphones and enjoy some ME time. I hope both movies are good.

I haven't done the #PhotoADayJuly from Fat Mum Slim yet, so here are my photos starting from July 4th. I have to get used to taking photos when I'm outside. I'm shy about it, I keep forgetting that these days it is OK to snap a picture whenever you want to! Well, not always but you know what I mean. I didn't do Day 7 (garden) because I didn't have a picture for that day. Check out Fat Mum Slim's blog if you want to join the fun. • Day 4 - Fun. Love Drop Dead Diva but I don't have the channel so I have to stream it on Netflix. 
• Day 5 - On The Floor. We were on the train as you can see. I noticed his sneakers and remembered I needed a picture, lol. I pretended I was doing something on my cell, lol.
• Day 6 - Chair. Was at McDonald's waiting for my daughter. I waited for over two hours for her. I was getting the evil eye from the cleaning lady even though I had bought something eat.
• Day 8 - Lunch. Comida de pobres/poor people food. Egg and mozzarella cheese grilled sandwich. I normally would use American cheese, but I had some mozzarella cheese and didn't want it to go to waste. Tasty!

Finally Gave In!

Last night I was watching Netflix with my son, we were watching Ancient Aliens. I was searching for something to watch with him but Netfllix doesn't have much that he likes these days. Finally, I decide on Ancient Aliens. At first he didn't wanted to watch it, but then he stopped complaining. After an hour or so he fell asleep and so did I. Not that the show sucks, it's very interesting. I wanted to keep watching it when I woke up, but I want to save it to keep watching with my son. I started watching Drop Dead Diva, I love this show! Too bad I don't have the channel, but for now I still have two and half seasons to watch. I thought it was canceled, but I checked online and it doesn't say that it was!

After, I started looking through the movies to add to my queue but most of the movies are old and I don't always want to watch TV shows. So I went online to check what new movies are out on DVD. Turns out, I'm missing so many good movies I decided to rent again. Even if it is for this month. I couldn't help it! For tomorrow we are getting The Darkest Hour and Chronicle. There is a short wait on Chronicle so if we don't get that one we'll get John Carter. I'm obsessed with Sci-fi these days. From zombies, to demons, to aliens! Anyone else decided to rent now that summer is here? 

While I was adding movies to my queue I noticed the picture below, lol. Someone didn't read the tittle well. They put the wrong cover for the movie Batman Forever. I checked and it is still there. Netflix Fail!

Life, Photo A Day June & Movies.

I can't believe is already the middle of June! Not that I'm complaining that time is going by fast, if I could hibernate until fall I would, lol. I'm sure if I lived somewhere else I wouldn't hate summer as much, but I don't so estoy jodida. Although I noticed that since the jerks who sit in front of the building got shot at during the memorial weekend they don't sit in front as often anymore. Yes, you heard that right. I was trying to enjoy myself on the Saturday of that weekend, watching a movie. My son was on the computer and my daughter was on her way here when we heard the noise. I thought it was firecrackers, but then I heard all of them running inside, that's when I knew it was something else.

The police shows up, turns out someone from the building on the corner from across shot at them at least five times and one the bullets hit one girl on the leg. She was also sitting outside in front. My daughter called me three minutes after it happened, she was two blocks away at the bodega. I told her to wait a bit before coming home. She finally came home and on her way here another girl told her what happened. Of course they were still standing outside gossiping about it at least two hours after it happened. I knew something like that was going to happen and I even told the cops last year. One of those bullets could have ended up inside my living room as they were sitting right outside my windows or the girl who got hit could have been my daughter. I try not to think about it and hope that God will protect me and mis hijios. 

I have been watching movies on Netflix lately since there is not much on TV these days or at least not anything worth watching. Last night I finished watching The Walking Dead season one with my daughter. It was better the second time around! Rick so rocks my world! That man exudes macho, lol. My daughter was disappointed they only made six episodes, but she's definitely a fan. After that, I started watching The Last Exorcism by myself, but again my daughter got curious and ended up watching it with me, lol. Let me tell you, the movie wasn't that great, but it keeps you guessing. You don't know what the fuck is going to happen next! It was entertaining that's for sure. My daughter ended up sleeping in the living room because she was scared even though she decided to finish watching The Last Airbender to get the other movie out of her mind. The Last Airbender, I tried watching it, but it is so bad I can't enjoy the movie. Bad acting and bad script. Am I the only one who feels that way about this movie?

I'm late with this, but I was busy all day doing laundry, etc. I got this Photo A Day for June from New York Chica's blog. These are fun, so once again I'm joining. I'm starting this challenge with Day 10, the best bit of your weekend. We stayed in all weekend (my son and I) since I'm getting over a cold that wouldn't go away (had it for over a week) and I still have a sore throat. Well, that and there is no money to spend right now. Saturday, I spent it watching creepy movies and TV shows with my daughter until very late. I started watching Don't be Afraid of the Dark by myself, but my daughter got curious and ended up watching it with me. We gave it 4 stars out 5. We liked it a lot. The girl in this movie, Bailee Madison is another actress that has a great future ahead of her just like Dakota Fanning. This little little girl can act! Also in the movie, Katie Holmes. It was a treat to see her.

Then we saw Quarantine 2, even though we didn't see the first one. I've been waiting for Netflix to stream the first part, but got tired of waiting. We gave it 4 out of 5 stars, it was entertaining, believable and nerve wrecking! We jumped a few times, lol.

Then my daughter asked if The Walking Dead was streaming. She wanted to see because all her friends have been talking about it. Luckily, Netflix still has it streaming! I thought I had seen all the episodes from Season 1, but last night I noticed I missed at least two, so it was good that I decided to see it again. We are up to episode 5. I'm dying for Netflix to finally stream the second season. I saw almost all the episodes online, I haven't seen the last two. Can't wait! I read somewhere we have to wait until August or September for the second season to stream on Netflix. That's just cruel if you ask me!

The Hobbit - First Official Shirt!

The Lord of The Rings trilogy are on my list of favorite movies of all time, even though I never read the books. First time I ever heard about the books was when the movies came out. Shh, don't tell anyone! I'm dying to see The Hobbit, it will be in theaters in December of this year. Yes! I received an email from WBshop.com with the first official shirt for The Hobbit. Doesn't it look cool, I love it! I used to buy movies and TV shows shirts back in the days. Had a bunch of them, one for every day of the week.

Day 17 & Day 18 - March Photo Challenge

This is day 17 and day 18 of my March Photo Challenge. I'm two days behind though. My daughter takes the camera almost every time she goes out so it's hard for me to take pictures when I need to. Grrr. Tomorrow I might go out so I'm going to try to take pictures of all the themes coming up. People might look at me like I'm loca, but oh well. After all this is New York. Anything can happen, verdad que sí?

After not renting movies for about 5 months, I got tired of the same old movies Netflix has streaming. They really need to get more recent movies into their streaming service. You can say about 80% of their streaming service is indie movies and tv shows. The rest is old movies and about 1% of recent movies. The latest movie I watched streaming was The Lincoln Lawyer, great movie! I was so happy to see something recent streaming. They are adding Melancholia soon, can't wait! Love Kirsten Dunst.

Over the weekend we rented, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Hugo. So far we have seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it was good! Just when I thought the  movie couldn't get any good it got better. Mis hijos didn't wanted to see it at first, especially my son but then after I kept showing him some parts he finally decided to see it. So I started the movie all over again for both of them. They loved it. Apart from the violence, it is a movie the whole family can watch. Wouldn't recommend it for little ones, but that's up the parents.


Day 17  - Work  Lasagña, a lot of work to make, but oh so good after it is done!

Day 18 - Looking Up  I can't remember if this was in Manhattan or Brooklyn.

Target Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1 DVD Event!

Target is going all out with The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1 DVD release! I clicked on the ad by mistake thinking it was the weekly ad. I thought I was being invited to a real wedding, lol. They are making sure you get into the whole fantasy of the film by selling everything there is to sell. I'm not going to lie, some of the things look very cute. I can be a hopeless romantic sometimes. Who knows I might get something! I haven't read any of the books but have seen the movies. I like the story a lot, but I wouldn't put the movies (wrong actress) out there with Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings. Hope this movie will be better though, with better plot and better special effects.

If you are a die hard fan, Target is having an exclusive event at selected Target stores on Friday, February 10 at 11PM. You will get a sneak peek at the The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2, starting at 11PM. Tickets to purchase the DVD/Blu-ray will be distributed in guest services starting at 9PM. Feliz Navidad! - Merry Christmas!

I want to wish you all a Feliz Navidad/Merry Christmas! Hope everyone is having a great day with their families and friends. Filled with love and laughter! I have been looking at the pictures people have been tweeting. Nice to see the kids with a smile on their faces opening their presents. There is nothing more beautiful than that!

I'm not spending hours in the kitchen today. Dinner is done basically, just warm it up and we are set. I baked another Gooey Butter cake, it turned out less sugary (ran out of powdered sugar) but I like it better that way (never thought I would say that!) and it has the right amount of gooeyness (new word?). That will be our dessert, yum.

We rented some movies, Conan The Barbarian and Thor. Since Netflix makes us wait for Blu-rays (sucks) those are the movies I could rent. So no feel good/Chrismassy movies. Oh, we can always see A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey again. That was a good movie! The animation is one of the best I have seen...

Anyway, I hope everyone got what they wanted from Santa, lol. Cuidense/be safe, mi gente. Have a designated driver if you drink or take a taxi!

Feliz Nochebuena - Happy Christmas Eve!

First, Feliz Nochebuena/Christmas Eve to everyone! I woke up early (8:30 AM, yes that's early for me) to put the pernil in the oven and enjoy some of the morning silence. It was so quiet! Yes, you would think since I live in the city I would love noise but no, I don't. It has to do with getting old and previously living next to a crazy woman for years.

Anyway, as I said 2 days ago I haven't been into celebrating the Holidays these days. I went out the same day and got some very simple/cheap Christmas decorations (see pictures below) for our table to brighten up my apartment and to force myself into feeling festive. Seems to be working a bit so far! Playing some mellow music working my way up to pop, rock and last some salsa and merengue. I wrote a post not too long with some of the music we (my familia) used to listen to for Christmas when I was growing up. Click here to read it. I've been cleaning up while the pernil cooks. My apartment smells (garlicky) so good right now, is making me hungry. Can't pick at the pernil yet, coño! So I will continue with the craving. Remember I was going to bake a cake, the Gooey Butter cake. I baked one on Thursday to see how it would come out. Well, it looked perfect when I took it out the oven as you can see by the pictures. But as I was taking some pictures, it started sinking on the sides, lol. Then the whole cake fell except for the edges. I left it for 45 minutes like the recipe said but it seems that it needed 5 to 10 minutes more. Still, it tasted DELISH (people weren't kidding!) but it was extra gooey in the center, lol. I'm not going to lie I had more than one piece on the same day and the day after. I'm baking another one later today, this time I'm leaving it a bit longer. 

Bueno, let me get back to what I was doing. I still have to make the arroz con gandules and the potato salad. Maybe fry some yellow plantains too. Bought an avocado, hopefully it will be good inside. I have bad luck with avocados! Same as with men, they are nice outside but when you taken them home they turn out rotten, lol. Sorry it was too good to pass up! This is me loosening up, feeling festive. And I don't even drink!

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol in IMAX!

If you are like me, the bigger the explosions the better the movie! Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol gives you that and more. Great casting (Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner) great acting and a great story. Something that is very hard to do after a trilogy. Sure, you may have great casting and great acting but the story most of the time sucks. Not this time! 

You have the chance to see Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol in bigger than life size, in IMAX theaters. The movie is showing in 300 IMAX theaters across the country. Prior to the wide release on December 21 and it will continue throughout the movie's run at the box office. You will get approximately 30 minutes of footage filmed with IMAX cameras! Can you imagine how amazing that is going to look? You will even get to see the first previews of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises! That's a great bonus.

Scarface Back In Theaters.

"Say Hello To My Little Friend" Sorry but I couldn't help it, lol. Are you a fan of the movie Scarface? If so, you have the opportunity to see the movie in theaters again. The catch, is for one day only. The movie will air on Wednesday, August 31 2011 at 7:30PM. Lucky for you the event will not start with the movie right away. First, there is a mini featurette including interviews from filmmakers and others. I love it when they give you extras! Head on to their site to check out which theater near you will be part of this event! 

The Blu-Ray version of Scarface will be out on September 6. I have made sort of a tradition to try to see all the cult classics con mis hijos. I want them to experience the movies from back in the days. As soon as it is available on Netflix I'm renting it. How about you? Do you watch cult classics with your hijos?

A Doggy Hotel Movie.

Hotel for Dogs was a really nice family movie. I thought that it was going to be too childish and cheesy for me to enjoy, but I was wrong. This movie didn't have any talking dogs, and the main cast of characters is mostly kids. Don Cheadle and Lisa Kudrow are in it. I watched it on my satellite TV from CABLEtelevision.NET using On Demand.

Since there were no talking dogs, I wondered how the movie was going to be constructed to keep my interest watching dogs basically do what dogs do. It was fantastic how the director used trained dogs and sight gags to engage the viewer. The child and adult actors both interacted with the dogs in the movie like they all knew each other for a long time. There were big dogs and little dog along with cute dogs and ugly dogs. There was even one dog who only had three legs. Way to go in hiring a handicapped canine actor!

Two foster kids were trying to keep together after their parents died. It was just the older sister, the younger brother, and their family dog. However, Friday the dog wasn't welcome at the kids' foster home. They holed up in an old abandoned hotel one night as they were running from the police after some bad kids burglarized a place right in front of them. The young boy was a genius at making fantastic mechanisms out of junk. He mechanized a whole system in the hotel to take care of all the strays they were finding. It's a heartwarming story for the whole family.

Tom Hanks Visits Univision!

Tom Hanks is doing the rounds promoting his new movie Larry Crowne. One of the stops was at Univision Despierta America. Now, you are probably thinking does he speak Spanish? From the clip it doesn't sound like he does but he had a translator. He danced, he had some chile and he even did the weather segment. It was nice for him to stop by. Happy April Fools Day to everyone! I normally don't remember this day but I noticed it last night when I changed the month on the calendar. I might play a prank on the kids, lol. Not sure yet. Do you play pranks on your familia or friends? Do they play pranks on you? 

I'm being careful with what I read on Twitter and in the news today! Can't believe everything you see or hear. It's a Friday, pranksters are going to have a good time. 

So happy Friday is finally here. Although I left my grocery shopping and errands for today so I'm going to be doing some running around, hopefully it won't be raining by then. Dinner will be simple for tonight that's for sure. Then to watch the movie Salt with the kids. Hope is a good one! We have been using Netflix a lot lately. Catching up with movies I never got to see when I was young, lol. I saw Jaws with my son not too long ago. Screamed in some parts that I didn't remember. Hard to believe it was made in 1975! We have the rest of the Jaws movies in queue, I want to see them all! To refresh my memory and so the kids can enjoy them too...
