June Monthly Preguntas!

PhotobucketIt's time for the monthly questions from Lisa. This is a nice way to share a bit of ourselves and get to know one another. If you would like to join the fun visit the From One Country To Another Blog.

1. So because we have recently gotten engaged I was wondering how all your hubby's popped the big question?

First, congrats to Lisa on her engagement! I'm not married anymore but this is how it happened. We were both living in Puerto Rico when we tried to elope because my grandmother didn't wanted us to keep seeing each other. However, my aunt ended up picking me up at his house a few hours later, after my mother had spoken to both of us over the phone. I ended up moving to NY after that and before I left Puerto Rico he told me we will get married when I get there. So that was it...

2. What Jewelery do you wear daily?

A small stud cross earring. I've had it for ages and I never take it off. When I go out I wear three silver rings and a pair of earrings. I need to buy some jewelry!

3. Have you ever been told you talk in your sleep?

Yes! I talk, laugh, chew and scream, lol. Yes, I have woken up chewing air because I was dreaming about food!

4. What are 3 websites you visit daily?

Plurk, Twitter, AOL

5. Are you allergic to anything?

Read this again and I decided to change it because I am allergic to certain things. When I first read the question I thought about a deadly allergic reaction kind of thing. I am allergic to cats (yes, I have one!), certain scents (vanilla gives me a huge headache), dust, pollen & mold. I love going to Bed Bath & Beyond, but I can't stay long because I start sneezing like crazy and my eyes get super itchy because all the scented candles, etc.

6. Have you ever had the chicken pox?

Yes, but I really don't remember when. I do remember my cousin being sick with it and I was putting Caladryl on her.

7. Last book you read?

A Sudden Change of Heart by Barbara Taylor Bradford

8.  4 of your Favorite Alcoholic drinks.

I don't drink so I don't have that many favorites, lol. One I liked a lot when I was in Puerto Rico was 43 mixed with milk. Yum!

9. What color is your bedroom wall painted?

Champagne.

10.Finish the sentence...

I'm hungry for...... Cinnabons
I'm wearing...... nightgown and short socks
I'm sad when..... when I read the news from around where I live.
I feel like.... I wish it was Fall already. Can't wait for cooler temperatures.

What's Been Going On.

PhotobucketBeen trying to blog for the past week but always something gets in the way. For instance, by Wednesday I had a full blown cold or so I thought. Friday, I woke up feeling like I was carrying a bus on top of my head. Couldn't go out at all. Feeling a bit better today, so far. The next thing will be dealing with the coughing, I bought a bag of Halls, I am prepared!Photobucket

My weekend has been peaceful so far and I am so grateful about that! It was almost spoiled by a leak from upstairs. Yes, another one. Thank God my daughter noticed it right away. It was in the kitchen next to my microwave. The new one I just bought not too long ago! I sent my daughter upstairs to let her know, her answer, it was an accident. I understand it was an accident, but how many fucking accidents can you have? This is the third time this happens in the kitchen. If you leave your water running make sure nothing is going to clog the sink. Keep in mind that you have children, that they can come and clog the sink without you noticing. I let it go, didn't call the super because she caught it on time and I hate having to talk to that asshole. Next time, I'm not so sure...

I said on this post, that I had gone to the doctor to do blood work, etc. Well, I got the results and as I suspected my thyroid is low. I was prescribed three meds. One for thyroids, cholesterol and for Diabetes. This is my first time taking the last two. I was also given a glucose testing meter. I have to check my sugar every day and if it is below 100, I don't have to take the pill. It was a bit scary and overwhelming listening to the doctor telling me all of this. However, I now know where all the symptoms I have been having come from. I'm changing my diet little by little. I'm now cooking more with olive oil and once I run out of vegetable oil, I'm switching to canola oil. Baby steps.

Also, remember when I said I had gone cold turkey and stopped taking my antidepressants last year. Since then, I have lost close to 20 pounds and although it is not a huge amount of weight to some, to me it is. I started seeing a therapist again, but I'm not taking any antidepressants. It has been a month so far, and it has helped a lot. Not only me, my whole family. We see her as a family, but sometimes I go alone. I still get anxiety, but in other aspects I'm feeling a bit better. My self-esteem has gone up an inch.Photobucket

Well, there you have it, that is some of what's been going on in my life. I hope everyone is enjoying the few hours hours of the weekend we have left, that's depending where you are of course.♥♥

Slowly Creeping In.

Lately I have been feeling more crappy than usual. Reason why I haven't been blogging that much. Last year I decided to stop taking my medications because I was starting to loose myself (in some ways), was gaining a lot weight and the skin on my face was changing. I was doing good at first but as time has gone by I have noticed depression has been creeping in little by little.

My anxiety levels have been through the roof. Two days ago I found myself crying in the middle of the kitchen while cooking. Why? You might find this a stupid reason but here it goes. Temperatures are getting warmer, which means that this week the front of the building where I live is going to be full of idiots, women and men. Sitting there for hours, talking loud, playing music, making noise right outside my windows. That happened the same day I broke down crying. It was hot as hell inside my apartment so I opened my window to let some fresh air in. Had to close it within 15 minutes because I couldn't take the noise. Like everyone else, all I want is some peace and quiet. I want to be able to watch TV without having to turn up the volume because I can't hear it. The thought of what's coming has been keeping me awake at night since January. This is affecting me emotionally and physically. Not only me, but my son and daughter as well.

My therapist mentioned last year that we are suffering from PTSD, at the time I thought that might be the case, but now I'm sure we are. Those who know me on a more personal level know why. I don't go out at all, except to the supermarket once a week if at all. When I try to go out the nerves get the better of me, I end up in the bathroom with a stomach ache. I know, TMI. Sorry! Not only that, but I have been getting nauseous. It can be right after I eat, while I'm eating, basically at any time of the day. No, I'm not pregnant, unless one can get pregnant from a dream, lol. I'm not taking any medications so I don't know where it is coming from. Anxiety maybe?

I used to enjoy going out, walking around, being around other people. Not anymore. I know I'm missing out on a lot. Reason why I enjoy reading other bloggers who write about their experiences in life, I live vicariously through them.

I'm seriously considering starting taking medications again. The thought scares me, but this is sucking the life out of me...

A Questionnaire.

I saw this questionnaire at Life in the Armpit and decided to participate. If you would like to join the fun pass by From One Country To Another. She posts it monthly.

1. What is one chore that you hate doing the most?

Doing the dishes! There is nothing more tedious than that. At least to me.

2. When was the first time you had alcohol?

It was 16 years ago, I went on a blind date but I took my sister with me. We met at bar/restaurant.

3.What is one of the most embarrassing things that has ever happened to you?

Getting booed at school (Puerto Rico) as soon as I went through the gates because of how I was dressed. I was wearing a pair hot pink socks, black boots and high water pants. I had taken a trip here (NY) and that was the latest trend here. I had the last laugh though. A week later all the bitches were dressing like me, lol.

4.If you could choose how would you want to die?

Painless, but I hope I get to say my goodbyes first.

5. Would you rather see a movie at home or in the theater?

At home. I don't have to deal with other people talking.

6. Two of your favorite musical artists and why?

I would have to say Sarah McLachlan and Adele. They both have gotten me through some tough times.

7. Have you ever been to a karaoke bar and participated?

Nope. Never been to one, but I bet it is fun!

8. Are you a people pleaser?

Yep. Reason why so many people took advantage of me. Learned my lesson though, you can say I still am but not as bad.

9. In high school what group were you apart of?

I was part of small group. Not part of the bad kids group or the popular ones. Just a group of seven or eight regular kids.

10. One thing you remember doing that upset your parents?

Our refrigerator was old, the ones that you had to pull on the handle to open. One day I went to open it and the handle broke. They were upset, but can't remember what happened after though. If they fixed it somehow or bought a new one.

11. First Hangover?

Q.2 That was the last time I had alcohol. Had two Long Island Ice Tea and by the time I got home I was vomiting all over the bathroom floor. Glad I took my sister with me that day!

Spanish Friday - Remedios Caseros

This post is written in Spanish for Spanish Friday at Latinaish. The English version is below. You can also use the Google translator on the sidebar to translate the entire page in Spanish. If you would like to participate follow the Spanish Friday link. Warning: If you are easily grossed out, stop right here!

I'm one of those people who have many moles on the body. But a few months ago I got a cherry angioma on my finger. At first it was small, but after getting hurt while I was opening a box of cereal, it started hurting and growing a bit. I decided to search Google to see if there was a home remedy to get rid of it and thank God I found one (read the comments, date 9/7/2011). Very simple, take a cotton ball with apple cider vinegar and apply it on the cherry angioma for ten minutes twice a day (I did it once a day) for four to five days. The cherry angioma starts drying up until it falls. As you can see in the photos, it worked! I noticed it this morning. I don't know if it is going to grow again but I'm happy that finally, I don't have that ugly thing on my finger. Thank God for the internet and home remedies! I hope this helps other people who have the same problem.

Ugh, My Poor Face!

I don't know about you but I'm ready for fall! The sun is causing havoc to my face. I went out last week to an appointment and to do some errands. Although it was a sunny beautiful day (took this picture with my cell), between the heat and waiting for the buses it felt like an eternity. Standing under the sun for almost 30 minutes waiting for the bus left me exhausted!

I got home and had a heat rash on my forehead and my cheeks. On top of that I have a bit of melasma on the sides of my forehead and over my cheeks, all that sun made it worse! Grrr. Now I'm looking for a good sunscreen for oily skin that won't make me breakout or make me look more oily. Plus a lightening cream to even out my skin. I have been going google crazy reading reviews looking at videos but so far haven't decided on which one to get. It sucks to have oily skin and be over 40!

Sorry I Haven't Been Posting...

Sorry I haven't been posting much this week. Have some things going on. It's kicking my ass, keeps me on edge 24/7 and I'm not able to concentrate in blogging. I'm praying everything will get resolved by the end of next week. Hate having things lingering in the back of my mind. Not having control of what happens, etc.

Finally went to see my doctor. Told him about the meds and he wasn't as upset as I thought he would be. Or at least he didn't show it. He prescribed me new ones. I read up on one of them and I'm not comfortable with the side effects. So as soon as I can't handle the side effects or I start feeling weird I'm calling him. Fuck it, no more but what if he gets mad. I'm the one who has to deal with it.

Yep, that's me I worry too much about other people feelings or what they would say about me. Have to definetely change that. I'm too old to still care what other people think. I want to be one of those people who live their lives however they want to. They don't worry about el que diran/what would they say shit. What about you? Do you have the same problem?

Going back to what is keeping me on edge. Please keep us in your prayers that things will turn out Ok. If they don't I doubt I will be back to blogging everyday anytime soon. But this time it won't be because I can't concentrate but because things will be harder for us money wise etc...

According To Her.

I saw this photo and it brought back memories and not pleasant ones. The word lazy is a word that I will forever hate. You see my mother used to call me lazy all the time. Because well according to her I am lazy. She used to tell me, stop sleeping so much don't you get tired of sleeping? You are so lazy, why don't you clean this place? According to her I didn't cleaned enough or cleaned at all. And she would say this anywhere and in front of anyone which pissed me off so much. I wanted to tell her to go to hell but of course I was a good daughter so it was something I would never say.

Back then people didn't believe in depression. It was something for strange and rich people to suffer from. I was simply being lazy because I had to force myself to get out of bed everyday. Because I didn't wanted to cook, clean or take a shower. Didn't wanted anyone to come over my place. She would ring my doorbell non stop and I wouldn't open so she would go to my window to call my name really loud. Sometimes I had no choice but to open the door because she would start saying, I know you are there! She didn't understand that I just wanted to be alone and not deal with anything.

She would tell my daughter don't be lazy like your mother. Look at her how fat she is. You don't want to be like that. Sometimes she didn't mean to be mean (at least that's what I want to believe) but others she wanted to hurt my feelings. It never occurred to her that I might be suffering from depression. She never saw me crying in my room, eating in hiding to make myself feel better. She only saw me being lazy.

She suffered from depression at one point too but didn't wanted to admit it and never got help for it. What made the whole thing worse is that I went to a doctor and he too didn't believe in depression. In his words what I had was "bored wife syndrome". I couldn't believe what was I hearing. I thought I'm fucked, I feel like shit and no one can help me.

I suffered from depression for years before it stopped being something that only rich people suffered from. Finally, a doctor prescribed me something. I got better and was doing good for about two years. Then it started again but didn't go to the doctor until last year. Now I'm on meds and trying to get better. I no longer have a relationship with my mother or any other family member. For now that's how I want things to be. I want peace, not anyone trying to belittle me by calling me lazy and fat...

Oh The Pain...

I went out yesterday to run errands and although I didn't walked as much as other times I got home with a horrible pain on my right ankle. I couldn't go down the stairs at the train station. The pain made me flinch. You know this is NY so people want to climb over your head if you don't go down the stairs quickly. So there I was trying to go down the stairs as quickly as possible and in horrible pain. I don't know what the hell happened. I have to go out today again for an appointment and to run more errands and my ankle it still hurting. Of course I don't have an ankle brace when I need one. That should be fun!

Anyway, I did a review on Edge Nail Art some time ago. I really like their products. Wish I could get another style because the ones I have don't go good with every nail polish. I did my nails a few days ago and wanted to share how they look. These are like metal studs. Don't judge, lol. Love the look. I was in a hurry when I did it so I just didn't do anything elaborate. Next time! Anyone else have used their products? I would like to see what you have done with it.Photobucket

When It Rains It Pours.

You know that saying that when it rains it pours. I'm an example of that as of this past week, reason why I haven't been posted as much. Ran out of medicine, didn't go see my doctor because I didn't wanted to go outside. The thought makes me cringe most of the time. Since I ran out of medicine I was in a blah mood some days and others I was moody as hell. Couldn't sit and concentrate on writing a post. Finally went to see my doctor so I'm hoping by next week I will feel better.

One of the highlights of my week was getting a haircut, I wrote a post. I know it's nothing but to me it was a big deal. I don't get to pamper myself often so this was a treat and I like the way I look! My daughter says I look younger, that mi amiga es un plus. Although with this humidity it looks like a cotton ball!

Anyway, on with the rain. I was watching TV 3 days ago when the door bell rang, I got a letter. I thought it was nothing important just routine stuff. It wasn't, I'm not going to go into details but lets say is something you never want to deal with. The upside, I can fix the problem. I'm just going to have to fight like hell to fix it and the stress level is going to be through the roof! But what the fuck it has to be done. Same day my daughter goes to check the mail and hands me another envelope, again I thought it was just junk. It wasn't, I called the person who is supposed to give information about the letter and explain what it means. The asshole tells me he doesn't know anything that I have to ask someone else. I wanted to stick my hand through the fucking receiver and strangle the bastard! I know the letter means nothing good so again something else I'm going to have to get stress about.

My son starts school next week and I am so not ready. Let the worries begin! He's not ready either, he's been stressing about it. I have been trying to calm him down but I don't think is working. We'll see. I haven't been able to buy anything for school yet. Hopefully the list won't be long! I have a few things from last year so that helps a bit. I have faith in God, something will come up and things will get better. Like I always say Dios aprieta pero no ahorca/God squeezes but does not strangles.

A Much Needed Haircut!

After much procrastination I took the plunge yesterday and got a haircut! It didn't turned out the way I wanted as usual even though I showed her a picture. I wanted this style but no bangs. Everything the same length and you can see the hair is parted at the side. I specifically told her not short in the front because I don't blow dry my hair. I leave it curly so the bangs are not going to look like that. I mean if I could afford it I would blow dry it of course pero no hay dinero/no money. Halle looks gorgeous!

Anyway, she (the hairdresser) cut it short in the front and parted my hair in the middle. I was somewhat pissed but I was so glad to get rid of all that hair that I didn't said anything. I just paid and left. It will grow back soon anyway. Now I have to relax it and dye it again. I feel so much lighter now. I can just wash my hair in five minutes, some hair gel, dry it a bit and voila! My daughter likes it so I guess it doesn't look bad.Photobucket
