My Birthday Present & A Monday Meme.

My birthday is this month, so as a present I did something I always wanted to do, but kept putting it off because I was scared of the pain. Last Monday, I finally did it. I pierced my nose!

I asked my daughter to take me to a place she knew. She wanted me to wait until the next day, but I told her it has to be today! She asked me why? I said for personal reasons. Her answer? FOR PERSONAL REASONS, LOL (yes, she typed it in capital letters). I didn't want to tell her that if I waited another day I was going to chicken out again. So, off we went.

When we got there he was doing a piercing on a girl. I was nervous, but not as much as I thought I was going to be. I had read about it on the web so that calmed me down a lot. My daughter was more nervous than me, lol. She walked away when he was about to start. It was done in less than two minutes, and it didn't hurt as bad as I thought. As soon as he finished putting the stud in, the pain stopped. It was that fast! My eye teared up, but other than that it wasn't a big deal.

So far it is healing good. This was one of my main concerns. I was afraid of getting an infection. I clean it at least five times a day and I don't touch it unless I'm cleaning it. I also don't put makeup close to it. It looks a bit weird, but I rather look weird than risking getting an infection. I have read about people getting bumps weeks or months after. I'm crossing my fingers. If I get one, I already know what I need to do. Tea Tree Oil gets rid of it (100% pure). At least that's what I have read on the web.

For those of you who have been thinking about it (or are curious), but like me are afraid of the pain, etc. I posted a great video I found on youtube of the procedure. The guy that did mine didn't use a cork. I'm guessing not everyone uses one.

I also posted a video with tips for aftercare from someone who does piercings. This is how I clean mine. I wash it with soap and water first, then using a Q-tip with alcohol I clean it around and inside my nostril. After it dries, I use Walgreens antiseptic spray. The two videos below say you should use sea salt with water (boil the water first) to clean it. I'm getting sea salt tomorrow to add it to my aftercare. Also, H20cean Sterile Sea Salt piercing spray has good reviews. So far, I'm very happy with the results!

Most women these days want to look like a celebrity. I mean, let's face it, celebrities are everywhere, pushing products and clothing everyday. Whatever they wear most of us want to wear it. However, not everyone can spend thousands of dollars to look like a celebrity. Some of us have to make do with what we can afford, right? Just because something costs more it doesn't mean that it's a better product. That's not always the case.

I can't afford to buy high end cosmetics or clothes, so I choose a few things that I think should be of higher quality. I have oily skin, so I feel I should spend a bit more on my foundation, blush and one or two good makeup brushes like the ones from Bh Cosmetics. The rest I purchase at the drugstore, at least for now. I read and watch video reviews on products I plan to buy ahead of time to make sure that it's worth the money. Although some stores let you exchange/return products.

If you take a look at this infographic below, you can see how much celebrities spend to look the way they look. Wow! Although for some, no matter how much they spend, it really doesn't make a difference because of their lifestyles, if you know what I mean. I read about the makeup styles. I think I'm either type 4 or 5, which is either Selena Gomez or Beyonce's look. I tend to do the type 5 look without eyeliner during warm to hot weather, or if I'm in a rush. During colder weather, I wear a bit of more makeup because it doesn't melt off my face in an hour. Check out the rest below, there are 6 in total. Spring is bursting on the scene in styles that look like they were taken from the most fashionable Latina’s closet. We spoke to Davis Carrasquillo, the New York City-based creative director and fashion editor of 1fashionproductions  to get our top picks of the bold, the ultra-feminine and the sexy staples that came from the runway.

Citrus
Citrus colors are the powerhouse trend, a favorite of ours because it makes bronzed skin look even more beautiful. The purest way to wear this trend is with a dress, like Selena Gomez does. For a budget-conscious option, try a blouse or simple tank in a saturated hue to put a pop of color in your look.

Bangles
Bracelets are accessory must-haves for lots of Latinas, and as Eva Longoria shows, bangles are back in a big way. “Use lots of different tones and textures -- they don’t have to match,” advises Carrasquillo.

’70s-inspired
No need to go over-the-top with frosty eyeshadow and frizzy hair. But if you are in the mood to really embrace a spring trend, then get yourself into some ’70s-inspired clothes, like one-sleeved tops and dresses. Jennifer Lopez gives us a great update with this beautiful dress that also brings in an additional seasonal trend: animal prints.

Ruffles
Ruffles are back on the scene, not just because of the flirty, youthful flare, but because now they are being styled in a grown, sexy way. You can go all-out like America Ferrara with her cape sleeves, or select a key piece, such as a skirt, to experiment with this look. Soft ruffles are more forgiving and flattering.

Shorts
Break out the heels and platform sandals if you are brave enough to try the shorts trend. The styles can range from super-short and casual, a lá Cameron Diaz, or longer and tailored for a work-appropriate look.

Patterns
These were also reigning the runway, but in softer chiffon fabrics that are easier to wear. Chiffon dresses are one option, says Carrasquillo, but even using a scarf can update your look.

Klout Perks: Essie Mirror Metallics - Good As Gold!

I received another Essie nail polish Perk through Klout! I was sent the Good as Gold color from their Mirror Metallics collection. I love the color, but to be honest I was really hoping I would get Penny Talk. But hey, you can't complain when it is free, right?

I couldn't wait, so I did my nails that same night to test it. Well, you know how with some nail polishes you need at least three coats to have a good color? With this one, you only need two because of its high pigmentation. Actually, you can even get away with one coat, and it will still give you a good color. As for drying, it dried up fast. A plus for me, I hate having to wait more than two minutes before I do another coat.

I took the photo below five days after I did my nails. They still looked good with no major chipping. However, keep in mind that using glitter nail polish helps with the chipping. I did two coats of Essie's Good As Gold, followed by Wet n Wild glitter nail polish. The same nail polish I used here. I also added a design from the stamping Konad plate #M31. For the top coat, I did one coat of Seche Vite. I am very happy with the results...

Your co-worker always looks fabulosa in her cocktail dress, no matter what she weighs. It’s not that she has a perfect shape; she simply knows how to dress for her body type. Figure out your type here, and find a dress style that will make you feel glamorous and beautiful on your big night out.

Hourglass Shape: Considered to be the most ideal body type, the hourglass shape boasts breast and hip measurements that are almost identical.

Dress: Although the hourglass’ best feature is her waist, don’t overemphasize it with a skin-tight slinky number, advises Barbosa. Instead, choose a flowy look and complete it with a belt to show off your small waist.

Pear or Spoon Shape: The pear shape is one of the most common body types -- especially for Latinas -- and features a more bountiful booty.

Dress: Choose a flattering empire cut that balances your bounty by featuring your upper half.

Apple Shape: Slightly bigger around the tummy, you’re lucky because you have skinny arms and legs, making it easy to camouflage your trouble spots.

Dress: It’s all about the structured look for you. A shift’s vertical lines will create a longer, leaner look.

Tube (Ruler) Shape: Often called “the boy shape,” the tube has minimal curves and is straight up and down.

Dress: Try a wrap or another style that is cinched or gathered at the waist to help create an hourglass figure.

Regardless of body type, you should ultimately shop for clothing that makes you feel beautiful. And remember to embrace your curves. After all, accepting (and loving!) your body is the first step in selecting clothes that will consistently fit and flatter.

This fall is all about the bold look -- from eye-catching geometric patterns to day-glow neons.

Celebrity stylist Anita Patrickson has helped celebs such as Jennifer Lopez, Katherine Heigl and Britney Spears sport the latest looks everywhere -- from glossy magazine covers to the red carpet. “My biggest tip is to own it,” says Patrickson. “Wear your fabulous new looks with confidence!” Here are her rules for rocking this season’s wildest trends:



Study your keywords. When you’re updating your personal style with the season’s trends, keep in mind Patrickson’s red-hot vocabulary: bright, colorful, vintage and ethereal.

Pair accordingly. Patrickson tells us this fall is all about pieces in Bordeaux-inspired shades, black lace, fur accents, gauzy fabrics and neon. But it’s a tad tricky throwing ensembles together. Match an over-the-top piece with something understated that’s simple and has clean lines, says Patrickson. Are you dying to don some bright Victorian ruffles at your next office meeting? Couple them with a structured blazer or a sleek pair of pants.

Focus the look. Bold geometric patterns are trending this fall, especially Native American styles. Select one item, such as a scarf, to be the focus of your look when you go for this. Pair a bold dress with one-tone tights and shearling booties, advises Patrickson, or dress up a basic crewneck sweater and pants with an attractive “glamazon” geometric necklace or earrings.

Fashion for weekends. “Weekend casual for me is all about great knits,” says Patrickson. “Graphic color-blocked retro prints will keep you on trend, even on your days away from the office.”

Style on a shoestring. If your wardrobe funds have shriveled up this season, don’t fret. “Accessorize,” says Patrickson. “Find a fabulously bold cocktail ring or a striking, colorful clutch to shake up your look.” Or spice up your wardrobe with fiery red: Try red jeans (yes, we’re full-on loving them too!) or a red mod coat that you’ll get to throw on nearly every day of the fall season. And don’t forget the new Missoni line for Target. If you’ve never before been able to afford that enviable zigzag print, now is your chance.”

New Boots.

These cooler temperatures have really gotten me in the mood to wear fall clothing. Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. I love wearing light scarves with t-shirts and jeans with knee-high boots. Last year, I looked everywhere to try to find some knee-high tan boots and could not find any that I liked. Last weekend I went to the mall and found the perfect pair of boots. The only problem was that they did not have my size. I was so disappointed because I literally searched every store last year and could not find any that fit me like I thought these boots would. 


When I got home from the mall, I realized that my husband had set up our satellite internet with satellitestarinternet.com, so I got on the internet to try to find my boots. I found out that another store had them in my size, and I immediately ordered them. They shipped pretty quickly and I got them yesterday. They fit me perfectly and I cannot wait to wear them. I just have to avoid telling my husband how much I paid for them.

Favorite Fashion Show.

Investing in satellite TV from directstartv.com has been both a blessing and a curse. It is really great that I have access to so many channels, and it is really horrible that I have access to so many channels. This means my weekends are now full since I can always find something to watch and this weekend that something is What Not To Wear. I know this show is for the fashion impaired and no one should want to be cast but I kind of do. I mean, what's 1 hour of public humiliation for a whole new wardrobe? I love that this show is the whole package too. 

They do not just give a fashion victim new clothes but rather, they take the time to really learn about their personal style and give them ideas of what not only fits their personal aesthetic but also what would look good on their body type. They also always include a new hair style which is often a cut and color and a makeup application. You would be surprised at what a trim and a little makeup can do for a person. The show is pretty predictable with the fashion victim trying to shop on their own and inevitably resorting back to their old habits, then the hosts jump out and help them choose their whole new wardrobe; even so, I still love it every time.

What Happened?

I was watching Good Day LA streaming this morning because Kat Von D (love her show) was going to be on the show and they had a segment about kids going back to school and the clothes that are on style etc. I was sitting here listening to the woman talking about what's on style and the prices. A little jacket for almost $30 for a 7-9 year old! Hoodies with pockets for the mp3 players, seriously? To go to school. I kept thinking what the hell they are going to school to learn not to freaking model or to party. 

I think is wrong that people put so much emphasis on what kids wear to school these days. Children no longer are excited to go to school to learn or make new friends but to wear the best clothes around and compete with one another. Sure back in the days there was a little bit of that too but these days is ridiculous. I've seen girls and boys dressed to go to school like they are going to a fashion show or something.   

I remember when I used to go to elementary school I had to wear uniform. My uniform wasn't new I had to wear the same one year after year. To the point it was mini skirt. I would put a pair of shorts underneath. Then again we weren't people of money so we had to stretch the clothes we had as much as we could. It wasn't until high school that I started wearing regular clothes and caring more about how I looked. These days kids start thinking about that before entering school! I think is sad. There is no Mami I'm going to school and I'm going to have a new teacher. Instead, is Mami Claire has a sparkly/bling out backpack and I want it!!! 

Then we wonder what has happened to kids these days. Why girls want to have plastic surgery in their teens and want to have babies like they are dolls. Why boys get into trouble at an early age thinking is the style to have a record. What happened to the age of innocence. It's becoming nonexistent...
