Memories: Sept. 11 10th Anniversary.

Reposting this post in memory of those lost on this day 11 years ago...

62Today is the 10Th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. I wasn't sure I wanted to write a post about it because just last night I had a nightmare (reason why I posted it so late), but here I am. First, my prayers and blessings to the families and friends of those lost on this day 10 years ago.

It's hard to believe 10 years have passed. Feels like it wasn't too long ago that I was riding the bus after dropping the kids at school. I was going through a rough time then so I was feeling depressed (that's another story). I turned on the radio on my phone to listen to some music. As I was thinking about the apartment I was going to see I heard about the first plane. I thought, wait did I hear right? I wish I could have pressed rewind at that moment. At first, I thought it was a prank or an accident. Then I heard them say a second plane just hit the second tower. I kept looking around the bus to see if everyone else heard the same thing because I still didn't believe it. Everyone looked normal.

51After the bus, I took the train to get to Roosevelt Avenue and there from the platform I could see the Twin Towers filled with smoke. My mind was racing trying to think about every possible explanation. I kept trying to call my kid's school but the cell phones weren't working. When I looked up again there was only one tower standing. At this point I still wasn't sure what had happened so I kept trying to call my kid's school but couldn't get through. While I'm trying to look for change for the pay phone I glanced over and the second tower was gone. I could hear people gasping and crying. Me, I was stunned for a moment. I couldn't think. I thought, what is happening? Then I see everyone else going down the stairs when I heard the announcement that there were no trains running. I started panicking thinking how am I going to get to the kids. I kept calling the school from a pay phone but nothing. I finally got through to my ex (we were together at the time) when he tells me that we were attacked. I said to him what do you mean? He tells me again, I started crying. I could feel my heart beating really fast, feeling like someone just dropped a bucket of cold water on me. I told him I have to get the kids, I don't know how but I'll get there. He was further away so he couldn't get to them.

Everyone was leaving the train station so I followed them. We ended up in Northern Boulevard, trying catch a bus from there but the buses that kept passing by were full. People were trying to call their families to pick them up. I didn't have anyone to call so I keep trying to catch a bus but none of them were stopping. People started talking to each other trying to keep calm, asking where they were headed to see if they could get a ride. A lady started talking to me, she told me that her son was going to pick her up that she could drop me off at the nearest bus stop. I said to her, Ay, Gracias! Que Dios se lo pague/Oh, thank you! May God bless you! Every time I think about it I wish we would've asked each others name, would've liked to stay in touch. If it wasn't for her God knows how much more I would've had to wait to get to my kids. From the time we got there to the time we left it was almost 4 hours.

I finally got to the school, I literally ran to them to hug them. I kept asking them if they were ok. At the time they were 11 and 8 years old so they didn't really understand the magnitude of what was going on. I told them I was trying to call the school and that's when they told me someone had called in a bomb threat. On a day like that why would someone be so cruel, and call a bomb threat to a school, is beyond me. We took the bus home, and as soon as I opened the door I ran to turn to the TV. I remember vividly seeing the first images, I was sobbing. Finding out that they not only attacked New York, but also Virginia. The third attack prevented by the heroes of flight 93. God bless them for giving their lives for us.

All that time I thought that the people inside the buildings had had enough time to get out. When it was clear most of them didn't, I felt angry and helpless at the same time. As silly as it may sound (I'm sure I wasn't the only one), I wanted to help somehow. Go down there to help with the digging, serving food, anything. Of course that didn't happened for me, but I am glad so many people did help in one way or another.

For the next couple of days, weeks I was glued to the TV. My problems were secondary at that point. All I could think about were the people under the rubble waiting to be rescued. I wanted to know every little bit of new information. That, for some reason gave me some comfort (until this day I don't know why) even though when I went to sleep I would have nightmares.

I remember people being nice to each other after that day. Asking how are you doing today? Saying hello and good morning. Something that not many people used to say, and still don't. I remember feeling so proud of being an American. Thinking we are now at war, our soldiers will find them. We will show them how strong United States can be. Our way of living may have changed, but we are as strong as ever. We Will Never Forget...

Note: I uploaded some photos I received through emails years ago. I don't claim this photos as mine, I'm simply sharing them.

Update On Daughter & #PhotoADayAug

English: onion
For those who like me, try home remedies before running to the store, etc. I wanted to update you on my daughter's underarm bump. It's not longer there! The onion worked. I forgot to take pictures of the before and after though. The trick is to put the onion as soon as you see it. Before the bump gets big, that way when it comes to the surface it will be able to drain because there is not a big amount of debris.

Of course there is a chance that it might not always work. Like what happened with the first bump on her leg. I'm in no way saying that you should not go to the doctor, etc. I'm just sharing my experience using this home remedy.

The bump on her leg healed nicely, thank God. She has learned her lesson after this. She shaved with an old razor and instead of using shaving cream, she used soap because she was in a hurry. She probably cut herself and that's how it got infected. So don't risk it. Use a new razor!

Now to my Photo A Day August from @FatMumSlim. Check out her blog for the rules on how to play. You can share your photos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, Pinterest, Tumblr or you Blog. I have missed one day so far. Not bad! I would like to share them on Instagram, but I have an Android phone so I have to crop the photo before uploading it. Most of the time I end having to crop the best part of the photo so sometimes I don't bother. It sucks. They have to change that and they should let us upload from the web already. I don't know if you have to do that with the iPhone. Do let me know if you are an iPhone user. Yo quiero saber, I'm nosey like that.Photobucket

Oh, My...

PhotobucketI can't believe July is over! Not that I'm complaining of course. I'm so ready for cooler temperatures so that I can go out without sweating buckets. We still have one more month to go before the temperature start going down! Yesterday I had to take a train and a bus to get to my ophthalmologist appointment. I was so happy it wasn't really hot, it made the long trip bearable.

This was my first time seeing an ophthalmologist. My doctor made the appointment after I told her that for the past two to three years I have been waking up with blurry vision. She said that it could be due to the diabetes. The ophthalmologist sent me for three more tests, one of them for glaucoma. He said it could be nothing that it might be something I was born with, but he wanted to check anyway. Hopefully is nothing, crossing my fingers. Oh yeah, the doctor had a resemblance to Rick(the hotness) from The Walking Dead. It was so weird, I could hardly look at him. Let's just say I left his office a bit hot and bothered, lol. That's a good sign, I guess. It means I'm still alive if you know what I mean...

Then as I'm trying to recuperate I get outside and bam, the light hit my eyes and I could barely see anything because of the eye drops the doctor put in my eyes. Thank God I had my sunglasses if not I would've had to wait until the effect wore off because I was by myself.

Ok, so it's time for a new month of Photo A Day from FatMumSlim. Below is the new list for August. If you would like to know more about it before you decide to join, here are the rules. I know I have been slacking off with taking pictures every day. I'm going to try my best for this month.

 Day 1 - Outside

If you are in New York, make sure you take an umbrella with you. Supposedly is going to be raining on and off today. Here we already had the first downpour, yay! Enjoy your day...♥♥

My Weekend.

PhotobucketHow are you staying cool? I have stayed inside as much as I possibly can. I thought I had to go out yesterday morning, but I didn't. It rained late last night a bit so it has cooled down somewhat. Seems like we are getting some relief this coming week, thank God!

I cooked extra food yesterday, so I didn't have to cook today. Too hot to be in the kitchen everyday. I made arroz con salchichas, pink beans, corn and maduros. Haven't made that in ages so it was a tasty change. Not mention super cheap!

I'm sitting here listening to 80's music on Spotify, waiting for my son to finish with the TV so I can watch one of the movies we rented. We rented John Carter and Underworld: Awakening. I know he's not going to want to watch Underworld so I'll watch it by myself because my daughter is out with friends. Plug in the headphones and enjoy some ME time. I hope both movies are good.

I haven't done the #PhotoADayJuly from Fat Mum Slim yet, so here are my photos starting from July 4th. I have to get used to taking photos when I'm outside. I'm shy about it, I keep forgetting that these days it is OK to snap a picture whenever you want to! Well, not always but you know what I mean. I didn't do Day 7 (garden) because I didn't have a picture for that day. Check out Fat Mum Slim's blog if you want to join the fun. You can share them through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, Pinterest or your blog.

  • Day 4 - Fun. Love Drop Dead Diva but I don't have the channel so I have to stream it on Netflix.
  • Day 5 - On The Floor. We were on the train as you can see. I noticed his sneakers and remembered I needed a picture, lol. I pretended I was doing something on my cell, lol.
  • Day 6 - Chair. Was at McDonald's waiting for my daughter. I waited for over two hours for her. I was getting the evil eye from the cleaning lady even though I had bought something eat.
  • Day 8 - Lunch. Comida de pobres/poor people food. Egg and mozzarella cheese grilled sandwich. I normally would use American cheese, but I had some mozzarella cheese and didn't want it to go to waste. Tasty!

Hope you enjoyed your weekend. I did, gracias a Dios...♥♥

Blank, Nada...

Feels like I haven't blogged for about a month, but it has been five days only! I have been busy with life plus I haven't been in the mood to blog lately. We all have been through the I need a break from the internet days. I'm sitting here listening to music trying to get some inspiration, but nada. Like they say, I have to recharge my batteries.

I guess I have too many worries to think about anything else. Even my dreams have been weird. From natural disasters to me going back to school and getting picked on by some bitches. The one about the natural disaster, I was trying to look for the kids (they were still small), but couldn't because the area was full of water. I kept waking up trying to get rid of the dream but once I fell asleep again the dream would continue, lol. I was like that for about an hour until I couldn't take it anymore and got up. I was pissed! Has this ever happened to you?

Anyway, here are my Photo A Day June photos. This challenge is from Fat Mum Slim's Blog. If you want to join check out her blog. She already posted the list for July. You can share your photos on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, Pinterest or your blog. Follow her on Twitter @FatMumSlim.

Life, Photo A Day June & Movies.

I can't believe is already the middle of June! Not that I'm complaining that time is going by fast, if I could hibernate until fall I would, lol. I'm sure if I lived somewhere else I wouldn't hate summer as much, but I don't so estoy jodida. Although I noticed that since the jerks who sit in front of the building got shot at during the memorial weekend they don't sit in front as often anymore. Yes, you heard that right. I was trying to enjoy myself on the Saturday of that weekend, watching a movie. My son was on the computer and my daughter was on her way here when we heard the noise. I thought it was firecrackers, but then I heard all of them running inside, that's when I knew it was something else.

The police shows up, turns out someone from the building on the corner from across shot at them at least five times and one the bullets hit one girl on the leg. She was also sitting outside in front. My daughter called me three minutes after it happened, she was two blocks away at the bodega. I told her to wait a bit before coming home. She finally came home and on her way here another girl told her what happened. Of course they were still standing outside gossiping about it at least two hours after it happened. I knew something like that was going to happen and I even told the cops last year. One of those bullets could have ended up inside my living room as they were sitting right outside my windows or the girl who got hit could have been my daughter. I try not to think about it and hope that God will protect me and mis hijios.

I have been watching movies on Netflix lately since there is not much on TV these days or at least not anything worth watching. Last night I finished watching The Walking Dead season one with my daughter. It was better the second time around! Rick so rocks my world! That man exudes macho, lol. My daughter was disappointed they only made six episodes, but she's definitely a fan. After that, I started watching The Last Exorcism by myself, but again my daughter got curious and ended up watching it with me, lol. Let me tell you, the movie wasn't that great, but it keeps you guessing. You don't know what the fuck is going to happen next! It was entertaining that's for sure. My daughter ended up sleeping in the living room because she was scared even though she decided to finish watching The Last Airbender to get the other movie out of her mind. The Last Airbender, I tried watching it, but it is so bad I can't enjoy the movie. Bad acting and bad script. Am I the only one who feels that way about this movie?

Here are my photos for the Photo A Day June challenge. I'm up to date so far, yay me! This challenge is from Fat Mum Slim. If you want to join, check out her blog. You can share via Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr or your blog.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!♥♥

Photo A Day June Challenge - Day 10

I'm late with this, but I was busy all day doing laundry, etc. I got this Photo A Day for June from New York Chica's blog. These are fun, so once again I'm joining. This photo a day is from Fat Mum Slim. First time visiting her blog, I am glad I did. I love her writing style. You can follow her on Twitter @FatMumSlim. To participate, share your photos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, Pinterest or on your blog. Make sure you add the hashtag #photoadayjune when you share them. I still might do the other one that I found through Mami Dearest just because.

I'm starting this challenge with Day 10, the best bit of your weekend. We stayed in all weekend (my son and I) since I'm getting over a cold that wouldn't go away (had it for over a week) and I still have a sore throat. Well, that and there is no money to spend right now. Saturday, I spent it watching creepy movies and TV shows with my daughter until very late. I started watching Don't be Afraid of the Dark by myself, but my daughter got curious and ended up watching it with me. We gave it 4 stars out 5. We liked it a lot. The girl in this movie, Bailee Madison is another actress that has a great future ahead of her just like Dakota Fanning. This little little girl can act! Also in the movie, Katie Holmes. It was a treat to see her.

Then we saw Quarantine 2, even though we didn't see the first one. I've been waiting for Netflix to stream the first part, but got tired of waiting. We gave it 4 out of 5 stars, it was entertaining, believable and nerve wrecking! We jumped a few times, lol.

Then my daughter asked if The Walking Dead was streaming. She wanted to see because all her friends have been talking about it. Luckily, Netflix still has it streaming! I thought I had seen all the episodes from Season 1, but last night I noticed I missed at least two, so it was good that I decided to see it again. We are up to episode 5. I'm dying for Netflix to finally stream the second season. I saw almost all the episodes online, I haven't seen the last two. Can't wait! I read somewhere we have to wait until August or September for the second season to stream on Netflix. That's just cruel if you ask me!Photobucket

The photo of the pollo en escabeche, that was our dinner for Saturday and Sunday. I got that recipe from Cuponeando a few months back and it has become one of our favorites! In case you want to try it follow this link to Cuponeando...

More Pictures, Nueva York.

On my previous post, I mentioned I had taken more pictures, here are the rest. I don't go to the city to hang out that much so whenever we go, I like to take pictures. Who knows if we get attacked by zombies tomorrow. You never know!

Talking about zombies. Did you hear about the naked man who was killed because he wouldn't stop eating another man's face. So horrible, they did an update and the detectives believe the victim was a homeless man and the naked man was suffering from cocaine psychosis, which explains why he took off his clothes. Want to be clear, that I'm in no way making fun of it, I just thought about it because people commented on the article and they said the zombies are here. That is all!

Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend. I know I am, I slept like a baby or close to it for the past two days. I needed it!

On Mother's Day.

I meant to write this post two weeks ago, but I have been busy with life, and my computer started acting up so I had to re-install windows twice. I kind of gave up on it for a day, lol. Right now it seems to be working fine, but every now and then reboots. Sucks to have an old computer!

Anyway, we went to the city on Mother's day. We walked around a bit then we went to Bryant Park. This was my first time going to that park. I thought it would be bigger so I was a bit disappointed, but it was nice. As you can see there were a lot of people but not to the point where you couldn't walk. There were a few families sitting on the grass area. No loud noises, just the birds, people talking and the occasional horn honking. My kind of place. I imagine at night it gets full.

We stayed there for about 4 hours, just enjoying the breeze. We took some pictures, as you can see below. Since we are on a budget (eating in the city is very expensive), we ended up eating at Burger King. That Burger King sucked! The people working there were nasty, then some pendeja came in to cut in on the line, so she got into an argument with a man. Forget it, it was a whole lot of drama! We wanted to eat at Wendy's but there weren't any sits available. We went to eat late so they had closed the second floor. Next time, we just won't eat!

I can't remember the last time I was around that area so there is bunch of things that were new to me. Like the sitting area around Macy's. My daughter took a picture, but it came out blurry because we were walking. You can see how the area looks like though. It looks like a nice place to sit around to eat lunch or dinner. Those stores around there must make a lot of money from all those people sitting there for hours! So many temptations, lol.

We had a nice time, after all. If only we had left home earlier, we could have avoided the Burger King drama. I have more pictures, I'll post them on my next post...

April's Photo Challenge & Life.

I have been trying to do monthly photo challenges ever since Mami Dearest introduced me to them, but I never end up finishing the month. So here I am joining one for this month (I know, I'm late again). Been busy lately so I forget to take pictures...

The weather has been too hot for the past 2 days. I had planned on not using the ac until June to save money on electricity, but last night I had to turn in on. It was too damn hot. I'm going to Target maƱana to buy the fan I wanted to buy 3 weeks ago, but couldn't because Target didn't had them out yet. Thank God it looks like the temperatures are going down a bit starting tonight! No ac needed tonight, yay!

As some of you know, I said that I was going to start seeing my therapist again. Well, I have a question. I called her almost two weeks ago and left a message, but she hasn't called me back. Should I take that as in she doesn't want me as her patient anymore or she has been too busy to return my call? I had a bad experience with a shrink once, so now I tend to look for signs. I don't want to see someone that is not in it to truly try to help people. You know what I mean?

Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying their week so far. Mine has been a positive one in some ways and I am so grateful for that. Praying that more good things keep coming my way...

Day 17 & Day 18 - March Photo Challenge

This is day 17 and day 18 of my March Photo Challenge. I'm two days behind though. My daughter takes the camera almost every time she goes out so it's hard for me to take pictures when I need to. Grrr. Tomorrow I might go out so I'm going to try to take pictures of all the themes coming up. People might look at me like I'm loca, but oh well. After all this is New York. Anything can happen, verdad que sĆ?

After not renting movies for about 5 months, I got tired of the same old movies Netflix has streaming. They really need to get more recent movies into their streaming service. You can say about 80% of their streaming service is indie movies and tv shows. The rest is old movies and about 1% of recent movies. The latest movie I watched streaming was The Lincoln Lawyer, great movie! I was so happy to see something recent streaming. They are adding Melancholia soon, can't wait! Love Kirsten Dunst.

Over the weekend we rented, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Hugo. So far we have seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it was good! Just when I thought the  movie couldn't get any good it got better. Mis hijos didn't wanted to see it at first, especially my son but then after I kept showing him some parts he finally decided to see it. So I started the movie all over again for both of them. They loved it. Apart from the violence, it is a movie the whole family can watch. Wouldn't recommend it for little ones, but that's up the parents.

Day 17  - Work  LasagƱa, a lot of work to make, but oh so good after it is done!
Day 17 - Work
Day 18 - Looking Up  I can't remember if this was in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
